Jan. 25. 1997 - July 15, 2006 (She was 9 1/2 years old.)
Summer and I were like one. She was everyone's dream dog! She didn't bark, didn't lick, didn't jump up on you, didn't chase
anything, went potty as soon as you took her outside. We just couldn't find any fault with her and everyone wished I could clone
her. Remember the one Pomona Animal Fair where we had Summer sit out front to see how long she would let people pet her?
Four hours and she was still looking for more. When I spoke at schools the kids would all surround her and the more the better.
She would just slowly wag her tail as they pushed in on her to each get to touch this big beautiful golden. The last time we went to
do a school presentation was last fall. The teacher didn't have a drawer to open except in her supply room. So I'd take half the
class and they would watch Summer tug to open the supply room door, all the kids would walk into the supply room and then I'd say,
"door" and Summer would close the door. The kids would squeal with delight. Then I'd ask her to "tug" on the file cabinet which I
had put a strip of fabric on the handle. She would open the door and then when I'd ask her to shut the door the kids would again
squeal with delight. That day both groups begged to do it twice!!!! In the meantime my daughter, Debi, had my wheelchair and was
letting each child sit in the chair to see just how hard it was to maneuver. The kids asked so many questions after my short talk and
Summer would move about looking for the child that was shy or might be afraid of dogs. When it was over the teacher told me that
the last little girl Summer had slowly laid down beside and put her head in the little girls lap was a child very much afraid of animals
and that she was the only one that never went with us when Summer opened and closed the doors. When Summer told me she was
getting tired and ready to go the little girl put her arms around Summer's neck and told her she loved her. Summer just seemed to
know that a gentle way always won anyone's heart.
Summer was still registered to CST and I do thank you from the bottom of my heart that you honored me by letting me have Summer
all these wonderful years. There will never be another dog like Summer!
