Through the Canine Support Teams Prison Pup Program, incarcerated individuals become an essential part of preparing service dogs that will one day transform the lives of veterans and people with disabilities. After completing their early development with volunteer puppy raisers, select Canine Support Teams dogs enter the Prison Pup Program for advanced training.

For approximately four to six months, incarcerated trainers work closely with these dogs every day, helping teach more than 70 specialized commands and skills that will prepare them for their future role as service dogs.

Under the guidance and supervision of CST’s professional training team, these dogs learn the behaviors and confidence needed to support individuals seeking greater independence.

But something equally powerful happens during the process.
